Special Events and Past Events

Previous Events
May 6th Prince Edward's visit to Heage Windmill
On a lovely sunny day in May, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, paid a visit to Heage Windmill, as part of a tour of Derbyshire activities, much to the delight of the group of children and volunteers who had gathered. He talked to some of the children and was then taken on a tour of the mill. A miller on each of the three floors showed the Prince the machinery involved in producing flour and he expressed interest in the various grades of flour produced. The Prince completed the tour by actually starting the mill in the brisk breeze.

Dame Ellen Macarthur opens Heage Windmill in April this year
A great honour was bestowed on Heage Windmill when Dame Ellen officially opened the mill at the beginning of the tenth anniversary season. Previous official openers were also present at this wonderful occasion.

Derbyshire Life magazine gives Heage Windmill a two-page spread in its July issue.

July 9th A WONDERFUL DAY. THANK YOU TO ALL THE PROUD OWNERS
Vintage Cars
Numerous old cars, the exact number is not known, but all date from the period between 1919 and 1930, called at the mill at intervals throughout the day and were available for inspection by visitors to the mill. Freda Stallerbrass, who beautifully decorates souvenirs including spoons and spirtles* made of wood, was on site demonstrating her pyrograhy skills, and a glamorous wedding couple came for photographs; Freda presented the bride with a spoon she had decorated specially for the bride.

September 4th Classic Motor Bikes

September 11th
Vintage Tractors Return To Heage Windmill
For the second time this year, due to a very considerable demand, a popular collection of assorted vintage tractors will visit Heage Windmill. They will arrive by 11-00 am and will be there until about 4-00pm. Some of the machines are more than 50 years old and have been beautifully restored by their proud owners, often taking hundreds of hours work. The tractors will be on display in the grounds of windmill, looking out over the beautiful views towards Crich Stand and the Derwent valley.
October 30th
Giant Cobweb - As part of the Derwent Valley Heritage week the staff of Heage Windmill with the help of visitors were able to construct a giant autumn cobweb outside the mill so that the many spiders can hide out in safety during the winter whilst we are closed. The web was made from elastic ribbon and each visitor to the site was invited to add another portion! This was the last opening day for the mill this season and was a great fun occasion.
Santa at Heage Windmill
Despite a very breezy and later, quite wet day, on Sunday 4th December Santa made his annual tour round Heage village, in his dray, drawn by his pony, dear Old Whisky – who was rewarded with a bag of carrots when he finally got to the windmill. A large crowd of impatient children awaited his arrival and soon were meeting him to tell him of their Christmas day needs. In all some 180 children were delighted to meet him and to receive a small early Christmas present. Meanwhile for their parents there were hot drinks and refreshments, together with various games to play and prizes to win. The day was a great success , with over 20 volunteers manning the mill, and raised over 1200 pounds, all of which will be used towards mill maintenance in the coming months. The mill will re-open to the public on Sunday April 1st 2012. The Trust would like to thank all who supported the day.
